What We Do

We began as a boutique market intelligence agency for the F&B industry in Shanghai in 2021, offering mystery shopping and hygiene auditing, among other services, to restaurants, bakeries and five-star hotels in the city.

Over time, we realized we needed to incorporate our long-standing passion for the food and chefs of China into the business.

Since leaving the kitchen in 2006, our founder has helped numerous well-known chefs, food writers, and film directors navigate the city and the country. At the same time, he has done in-depth market surveys for various hotel and restaurant group clients across China, as well as numerous creative projects around food and food culture in China.

We strongly believe China is one of the richest and most interesting countries in the world in terms of its food, culture and heritage, but recognize that the language, cultural, technological and travel barriers are real.

It’s easy to come to China but not as easy to understand the history and context of what you are seeing and eating. We are by no means “experts on China” — nobody is — but over the decades, we have witnessed a lot and accumulated some knowledge.

The mission of our business is to foster ties between F&B professionals from abroad with their counterparts in China, as well as offering commentary and analysis on what’s happening in the country’s restaurant and beverage industries.
